This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are many ways to teach math and many ways to learn math. While our schools espouse the investigative model, I believe it's important to expose them to the high international standards set by the Singapore math curriculum.

I will have 4th and 5th grade students from a diverse community.

We are 35% free and reduced lunch and have a beautifully diverse ethnic pool. We are a high performing school year after year with a dedicated staff committed to helping each student do their best.

My Project

Singapore math is a curriculum touted to be one of the best international math programs. Consistently, those countries using Singapore math have the highest performing students when tested in math. With this to supplement our existing curriculum, our students will benefit from a program that has proven over the decades to be one of the best. I am requesting workbooks in the Singapore curriculum for both the 4th and 5th graders - each getting their own classroom set. In addition, I am asking for one book of word problems to engage the students who are ready for 6th grade material.

As Americans explore with the best math method for the kids, I worry that we don't have a safety net.

I want my students to have a foundation that is proven to work as we augment our options.
