My students need frisbees, colored t-shirts, cones, and a portable disc-golf target to start an Ultimate Frisbee club at our school.

My Students

Thank you for considering bringing Ultimate Frisbee to our inner-city school! I am a science teacher at the largest high school in our urban school district. On top of what I do inside the classroom, I am ready to have an impact outside the classroom: I would like to share my passion of frisbee!

The opportunities to play sports have been greatly reduced in our school and school district.

Budget restraints have led to fewer gym classes and increased fees required to join sports teams. Many students have been priced out of staying active or never have had the exposure that would lead them to even want to. Obesity is becoming more and more prevalent due to the lack of physical education as well. In much the same way, the amount of positive after-school programs available to our students have decreased dramatically. Many of them have to go home straight after school to stay out of trouble, and then have video games and television to entertain them.

My Project

This project would give my students a place to go after school and stay active. It would give us frisbees, cones to mark the field, t-shirts to create teams, and a movable target to practice the various frisbee throws. With this equipment, we will be able to start a sports club the right way. It will help inspire students to try out the club, even if it is something new. I will be able to recruit students and teach them the skills and rules necessary to play. All that will be left is for us to go out and enjoy ourselves while we play Ultimate Frisbee!

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport many students from this environment have never even heard of, let alone had the opportunity to play!

A sports club open to all students will help promote maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Students will have a new place to go after school, and will also feel more connected to the participating teachers and to the school as a whole. I am excited for this opportunity- thank you for considering playing a part!
