Welcome to my classroom where I teach health in high-poverty school in NYC.

Everyday, almost 125 students in grades 10-12 walk through my doors, and as they leave, they take with them facts and choices that they can make to live a healthy life. They learn about making right choices-abstinence, saying no to drugs and the dangers of alcohol abuse. They also learn about pathogens and communicable diseases. I distribute handouts with summary notes after the lesson. But nothing is in color, which isn't very appealing to the young eye.

My Project

If I have an LCD projector, I will be able to bring a tremendous amount of visual information into our classroom. Imagine my students' eyes glued to the screen, with the colored image of the fatal HIV and the distorted red blood cells of a sickle cell anemia patient.

It is crucial to educate my teenage students in health issues so they can either take precautions or use their knowledge to understand a disease or disorder.

With my juniors and seniors, I can encourage them to do group projects for class presentations. This will help improve their self-esteem, their cooperation, and public speaking skills-traits required to succeed at a collegiate level. Please help me provide my students with an LCD projector so they can make healthy choices!
