This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your first trip to the beach? the circus? the airport? Many of our students will never have the opportunity to visit these places, but through video, we can take them there.
I teach 15 integrated three and four year old preschool students in a low income district.
Many of my children are English language learners and have had very little experiences outside of our home town. I hope to change that by creating a series of virtual field trips on video to allow the children to experience on film those things they have not yet experienced firsthand.
My Project
Our curriculum, Tools of the Mind emphasizes children's abilities to engage in make believe pretend play. The virtual field trip videos will stimulate their imaginations and give them a chance to experience the bigger world around them. Our next theme is the beach. Would you believe that although we live only about 25 minutes from the ocean, many of our children have never seen it? I hope to spend a day on Long Beach Island videotaping the lighthouse, dunes and a variety of animal and plant life. I will interview the lifeguards and any other willing participants to give the children a sense of what happens at the beach. This is turn will give the children a visual as well as the vocabulary to act these things out in their play scenarios.
