My Students

Accidents happen. Sadly, we found that out in our 7th grade social studies class. I love bringing in artifacts (borrowed) from historical events. My professor from college lent me his Draft Card from the Vietnam War. After handling from an excited student, it ripped. An ELMO can prevent this!

My students are awesome!

They have learned to love history and social studies because I made my curriculum to be more hands-on and investigative. When the accident happened and the card was ripped, my students and myself felt awful. They realized how important it is to preserve the primary documents we have, so that others may enjoy them. Our school is an inner city school in Illinois. Because of all the budgetary problems, funding has been almost eliminated. It is unfair to our students to deprive them of the learning experience they deserve. They are, without a doubt, passionate learners. In turn, they make me even more passionate about teaching. Most people might say that they won't make it past high school. I would risk everything to say that not only CAN they do it... but they WILL!

My Project

I know there are people out there who want to see positive changes occur in our school systems. I am one of them. That means I am willing to do everything in my power to create high, realistic challenges and standards for my students. They will be competing, one day, with people they have never met, who are outside of their economic status. If we can build their confidence and encourage them to "think outside the box," we have created success. An ELMO is something they have never seen or heard of, until I told them about it. An LCD projector was donated to our class, making it possible to use the ELMO. Having this in my classroom will benefit my 6 classes of social studies. We can look at primary and secondary sources, writing samples and the details of pictures with this learning instrument. I am confident that you came to this site looking for a project that will make a difference - you have found it. I assure you that my students will value this wonderful gift.

The Illinois budget has cut many programs and teachers from our school system.

These changes are going to affect students and their surroundings dramatically. We can ease this anxiety by proving to students that we will not allow these changes to affect their learning. They deserve the best education available. With your help, we are giving them one more tool to work with. I want to continue to engage them and help them better understand why historical events occurred. Please help by donating!:)
