This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine, you are in class reading a novel for a reading lesson. The teacher turns the page just as that suspense is building. You can't wait to find out what happens next. The only problem is the next three pages are missing!
I try to keep my third grade class fun and exciting.
My students are always very eager to learn. Every year we use several Magic School Bus novels to incorporate reading and science lessons. The children LOVE these books and can't wait to start each new novel.
My Project
Over the years, the love and enthusiasm for our Magic School Bus novels has taken a toll on our precious books. The spines are falling apart, the pages are falling out, and several of the books are just down right unusable. Voyage to the Volcano is one of my favorite books, as well as the kids'. What an exciting way to learn about this landform that provides the Earth with igneous rocks, climate changes, and new islands! This year was particularly exciting because we were able to discuss the eruptions in Iceland and see how a volcano effects the world, not just the immediate area around it. However, our books were in such poor condition during this reading that I'm afraid if we can't get a new set of books for next year, we will not be able to complete this unit. That would be a tragedy of "explosive" proportions!
