This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Oh My God!" This is a phrase that I hear so often coming out of the mouths of my fifth grade students. But what does that mean, and where on earth did that phrase come from?

I teach reading and language arts to a group of fifth graders at a Title I school where 95% plus of the students receive free lunch.

These students often face many personal problems as a result of coming from a lower income community. Due to the recent severe budget cuts in the school district, funding to the school has been cut and teachers must rely on donors like you to help give our students the materials they need for a better education.

My Project

My students have been focused all year on state testing and now they are finally excited about learning things outside of test-taking strategies. Their interests lie in the myths of the Greek gods. I am requesting 30 copies of a Greek mythology reading book along with four activity books to engage the students in the reading. I also requested a quilt painting kit in order to have the students create a quilt of the Greek Gods and Goddesses as a closing for the unit. This will give the students a chance to show their artistic skills while demonstrating what they learned from the reading.

With your donation, my students will have the chance to explore a different culture and dive into an exciting part of mythological history while practicing their reading skills.

You will help them learn about something they are interested in and in turn broaden their view of the world and of education itself.
