My Students

Can you remember what it was like when you held the book while your parent or grandparent read the words to you? Can you remember the way the pictures and words would come alive as they were read? I would like to recreate this experience for my students with a portable, personal listening center.

I teach all day kindergarten in a high-need community.

My classroom is hands- and brains-on. We love to sing while we learn. My class is made up of a diverse group of loving, energetic five and six year olds. They brighten my life, and that is why I am trying to brighten theirs!

My Project

I am requesting two iPod Nanos to help create a listening center for my students. Many of my students come to kindergarten having been read to very little or not at all. Many of the families have little access to literature and print materials. Listening to stories is essential for reading readiness and development. However, my students are at a disadvantage when they are lacking this vital experience. Through this personal, portable listening center the students would listen to stories each day. Each student would be able to hold his/her own book while listening.

The future of my students' academic success depends on your donation.

Your help would eliminate the disadvantage that many of my students experience. You could help 100% of my students develop reading readiness and confidence. These wonderful children deserve the best!
