My Students

In years past, hand sewing was a part of every child's school day. The art of embroidery is one that is in danger of dying. Help keep this folk art alive in a new generation of artists!!!

We are a very small charter school located in the mountains of Colorado.

Our curriculum is Waldorf inspired - we believe that children learn best through the arts. Drawing, painting, music and handcrafts are a part of daily life at the school. Our students thrive in an atmosphere which is warm, loving, and creative.

My Project

The materials that we are asking for will be used to expand the library of materials available to our young embroiderers. We are fortunate to have a member of the Embroidery Guild of America as a volunteer teacher. She is the mother of one of our teachers and grandmother to a student and future student. The students in the class have been fortunate to "learn at her knee." In the process, they have gained another positive role model. Our teacher has generously donated supplies to get the class started but as she is on a limited income, we do not want to ask her for more.

Our students have found another way to express themselves - the pride in their faces when they display a finished piece is proof that teaching an old art form to today's young people is not a waste of time!

Being a charter school with a student population less than 40, we are at the bottom of the list when it comes to funding from our home district. We all face budget cuts in all areas of schooling, money for supplies to teach something that cannot be tested by the state tests, is non-existent
