Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Serenity now! We'd like to offer our students a quiet, peaceful oasis where they can escape the chaos of their lives and get lost in a good book.

The economically depressed neighborhood where our school is located is plagued with urban blight, homelessness, and crime.

Over 95% of the students at our school are living below the poverty line. We are challenged to meet the significant needs of our students and their families brought about by the high mobility rate, lack of resources, and language barriers.

My Project

We would like to offer the students a place where they can feel comfortable and read. We will be keeping the library open for a few hours after school and hope that the students will take advantage of the opportunity to read, research or do homework. Currently most of our students have too many distractions at home to get their work done. Additionally, the public library is too far away for students to go on their own. The pillows and reading center would help us make the library a more inviting and relaxing place for the students to hang out.

This project will allow our students to have a safe and comfortable place to read.

They will have the opportunity to discover the joy of reading and develop into life-long readers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
