My Students

Have you ever grabbed that book that you just can't put down? It consumes you and even though you know you have other stuff to do, you just can't stop reading it! That is exactly how I feel about The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins. The first book was good, but Catching Fire is great!

I teach 8th grade reading and language arts.

We are a college community that is rich in various ethnicities. Our school is roughly 50% low-socioeconomic, about 40% African-American, 50% Caucasian, and 10% other ethnicities. I currently teach students of varying ability levels, from gifted to special education.

My Project

Because of economic limitations in our district, we are unable to purchase sets of classroom novels for our students. This particular novel, Catching Fire (The Hunger Games Series #2), is excellent for middle school students because it is one that all students can relate to and it allows for a common ground of interest for kids from many backgrounds. Thirty copies of Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games series, will allow my students to read this novel as a class. Catching Fire is a story of survival that is loved by both boys and girls and is an easy read. This is an excellent science fiction novel that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Your donation will ensure my students get exposure to science fiction, a genre that some students find difficult to read.
