My Students

Many students at our school are economically disadvantaged. Some have difficulty affording the basic school supplies, so they are not likely to have their own dictionary.

My students are from a rural area in East Tennessee, which is generally a low income area.

These are bright young students who I want to encourage to excel and better themselves. Many students who want to attend college need all the financial assistance they can get, so I want to ensure they receive proper preparation to be competitive for college scholarships and for college, as well as prepare them for bright, successful futures. I feel that through this class, which includes a variety of writing assignments, I can prepare these students for life after high school.

My Project

My class has ten badly worn dictionaries. These dictionaries are from the early 1970s and often, students cannot find what they need to look up in the dictionaries available to them. New updated dictionaries would be a wonderful asset to the classroom and to the students' learning during their semester of English III.

These dictionaries will help my students improve and increase vocabulary skills.

We have weekly vocabulary words and these dictionaries will help them find words more quickly and easily. In addition, they will be referenced during writing assignments to verify a word's meaning or to find a different word to use.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
