Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Boys need encouragement to pick up a book and read. The way to entice the boys is to have a character they can relate with.

My students are second graders from a low income school from a high poverty community.

They come from homes with few if any reading material on their level. My students have the desire and burning to learn, and they still love to read. The male students need more encouragement because they don't have life role models that encourage reading.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are books. These books either have a central male character or have the humor that boys enjoy. The books also span levels from first grade to fourth grade reading level. Some books are picture books, and some are chapter books. The chapter books come from series. Series books help encourage students because they want to read every book if they enjoy the character.

This project will make a difference to my students by encouraging and building the skills and desire needed to make my students lifelong readers.

I want my students to develop the love for reading so they will be able to read for knowledge.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
