My Students

The Internet offers so much, and its hard to gather a class around to watch a video or presentation when all we have is the little speaker in the laptop.

We're a K-8 in an urban area of NY.

The student population is diverse in terms of cultural background and socio-economic status. The vast majority have a strong desire to learn, and most of them learn better through audio/visual presentations as opposed to traditional classroom activities. They like to see, and hear, and then try on their own.

My Project

Our school has purchased subscriptions to many on-line video databases and resources, and while all of our classrooms have computers not all of the computers have speakers that work. Its great to send kids for independent time at a computer with headphones,but its tough to get a whole class quiet enough to hear content that's coming out of a tiny speaker. My particular situation is that I have a laptop and projector, but no speakers to amplify the sound of the laptop. The speakers that I've requested will make it easier to have whole class involvement in watching on-line and computer based content.

Education is certainly going digital.

Projects that we gave 5 years ago requiring display boards are now requiring PowerPoint presentations instead. What used to be the job of a TV and VCR is now being replaced by a computer and projector. These speakers will help usher my classroom and teaching into the digital age.
