My Students

Truth can indeed be stranger than fiction...and oftentimes more stunning, more heart-wrenching and unbelievable. Having award-winning nonfiction on our classroom library shelves will stir the imagination of my students.

In our high-need, diverse school district, much value is placed on high quality instruction and differentiation to meet the wide range of our students' needs.

Reading great, diverse literature that challenges students will help them prepare for college and citizenship. Our students can be voracious readers when the opportunity presents itself, but we have to work hard to keep current, engaging, and culturally relevant books on the shelves of our classroom libraries.

My Project

The American Library Association's list for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults provides the content of this project. Multiple copies of these amazing, true-life stories will allow students to share in their reading (and disbelief) as they encounter the absurdities and obscurities of everyday life recounted in these books.

Contributing to this project will give our students a chance to challenge their thinking, to see literature as a human experience and share in it with others.

The titles are current, relevant, and engaging for a wide variety of readers and interests.
