This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine a world with no color? Our students are dying to have more opportunities for color in their projects! An HP laser-jet color printer will do just the trick!

We are currently serving fifth graders in a low-income community where typically only one of five students go to college.

They need a lot of motivation when it comes to developing their craft in Writing. The girls love any sort of novelty in their lessons and activities. The more color with which they are able to view or work, the more engaged they are in the focus of the lesson. They were so helpful when it came to offering their ideas for spicing up our Writers’ Workshop.

My Project

When asked what supplies they would like to use in the class, the majority of the materials mentioned involved the word “colored”. One of the items mentioned were colored letter cut-outs to use on their posters. Fortunately, computers today have an abundance of tools to use to involve color in our projects. Students could print colored pictures, use a colored-font face, and other colored graphics to take it up a notch in their Writing projects. In addition to Writing projects, the color printer could be used to teach the importance of life skills and values. I would love to make this a time to have fun researching pictures that represent these concepts. How great would it be to have the girls keep copies of these pictures in addition to having them displayed in the school? After all, isn’t a picture worth a thousand words?
