My Students

Imagine being a native Spanish speaking student struggling to learn in an English speaking world.

My students are struggling readers in a K-5 elementary school.

Many of my students are second language learners who speak their native language at home and struggle to fit in English-speaking classrooms. Many of these students were first instructed to read in their native language and are now transitioning to reading, writing, and speaking in English.

My Project

I am requesting popular trade books translated into Spanish that have read-along Cd's. To build a variety of materials, I am also requesting additional trade books which some of our ELL teachers have offered to translate. These read-alongs will allow my students to build their language skills and background knowledge in their native language. They will be able to transfer this knowledge as they continue to acquire and become fluent in a new language.
