My Students

New-fangled ideas, hip-hop trends, and current crazes aren't always the best. My students could truly benefit from a taste of the classics -- a fresh cathartic wind of the past blowing through their minds.

Many of the students at my school must overcome severe obstacles and challenges.

-- For instance, many come from economically-disadvantaged homes. (78% of the students receive free-reduced lunches). Many of the students also come from families where English is not the primary spoken language.

My Project

By reading the classroom sets of such beloved classics as How to Read a Book by Mortimer Adler and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the students will be able to gain a taste of quality literature -- literature that has stood the test of time. Additionally, the CD copy of A Little Princess and CD player will enable the students to simultaneously listen and read the tale -- thereby appealing to the auditory and visual learners.

Being exposed to quality, classical literature will enrich the students' lives -- bestowing upon them skills that will last a lifetime.

Like a fresh wind blowing across a sun-parched desert brings refreshment, these fine classical works will inspire, strengthen, and enable the students to soar to greater educational levels.
