My Students

How many times have parents asked their kids, "So, what did you learn in school today?" Imagine if they could see it for themselves by clicking on their child's class web site and watching their kids explain their science experiments in a movie they made themselves!

My students love to experiment and are great with technology.

With your help I can put those elements together for a powerful learning experience. I teach 152 high-need students in both a special education and regular education classroom. My students spend their classes working together on inquiry based discovery. In my classroom I place heavy emphasis on experiments and hands-on learning. We are a regular pubic school in an inner-city setting.

My Project

With a video camera setup, my students will be able to take their science learning to the next level. All the research says that kids learn best when they do the explaining themselves. What better way to explain their learning, than for kids to make movies about what they've learned to share with their peers, their parents and their community! Imagine how powerful it would be for a child to be the star of a movie about science learning. Moreover, Imagine a struggling student being able to click on a movie that helps remind him or her about the experiment they did in class complete with visuals, data and narration provided by their classmates! That's students helping themselves and students helping each other. That's empowerment!

Your help will transform my students from learners into teachers by helping them to share their science learning with mini-documentaries they make themselves.

It's the perfect combination of science inquiry learning and 21st century media technology. All they need is a little technology to make it happen.
