My Students

Were you the type of student who struggled to stay quiet in your seat? Did you sometimes feel your needs were not being met in the classroom? Did you want to feel like you were part of a community? Please help me meet my students' needs!

Students who come into my classroom have very diverse learning styles/intelligences as well as emotional/behavioral needs.

Using a multi-sensory approach to learning, many more students will have their academic and social needs met. This project will also affect the sense of community and safety within our classroom. Students will understand what is expected from them by using musical cues. They will also feel a sense of excitement that music will create about the curriculum. Finally, students will feel that they are part of our community by requesting music that they find to meet our goals and accepting/supporting all intelligences within our classroom.

My Project

The unique aspect of this project is that "Music in the Classroom" does not just address one benchmark or curricular area, it addresses the way in which children learn, thus making it applicable to all curricular areas and characteristics of effective learners. This project supports current brain research about using music to increase student learning. Chris Brewer, author of the book, Music and Learning, 1995, concludes that music helps us learn because it will establish a positive learning state, build a sense of anticipation, energize learning activities, change brain wave states, focus attention, improve memory, facilitate a multisensory learning experience, release tension, enhance imagination, develop rapport, add an element of fun and accentuate theme-orientated units. What Chris Brewer describes is the type of classroom I strive to provide for my students and one in which and ipod touch would be used greatly!

This project could really make a difference in so many children's lives!

Current brain research on how children learn encourages the use of music as much as possible in the classroom for a multitude of reasons stated earlier. Please help bring education to life for my students.
