My Students

Once upon a time, I had access to a classroom projector every day. Due to budget cuts, my access to a projector has dwindled and interactive technology in my classroom has become a thing of the past.

Because of this current conundrum, I am unable to use my past projects of an interactive tablet and document camera to their fullest capacity and my students are suffering.

I teach in a high-needs school where my students do not have access to technology outside of the four walls of my classroom. My students are highly determined (yet easily distracted) Special Education students that require hands on, interactive instruction. Their disabilities include Asperges Syndrome (Autism), Learning Disables, Cognitive Delays and Cerebral Palsy.

My Project

Prior to loosing our projector, we had student centered interactive lessons EVERY day. I would like to share one of our most memorable lessons. For example, while teaching my students about Mean, Median, Mode and Range, I was able to create an interactive document for use with our projector. When we get to independent work, my students were able to display their work via a document camera (which I secured via a grant from DonorsChoose.org). We were also able to watch a music video/rap of mean, median, mode and range to the beat of "Apple Bottom Jeans." Finally, I tasked my students with creating their own mean, median, mode and range songs that we recorded using a Flip camera projected onto our SMART Board. I am confident that my students have an enduring understanding of mean, median, mode and range!

Please allow my classroom to continue to experience lessons like one discussed above.

Students learn best when they are having fun. Regaining constant access to a projector (and interactive technology) will continue to push my students achieve and prepare them for both college and the professional world! Thank You!
