My Students

Music makes the world go round. Do you know about music from West Africa? What about music from Central Java? North India? Neither do my students!

My students are from Nebraska.

They go to school in a very supportive community that really cares about their education. They love music and love performing, but don't know much about the music that exists beyond what their everyday world. They love playing and performing and present many programs during the year.

My Project

With these instruments, my children will not only be able to experience music from around the world, but they will be able to play it. They will be able to play traditional instruments in other styles. They will be able to apply the techniques they learn about to real life situations.

Music in our schools is so important.

It's not something that just happens on the radio, or TV; it surrounds us, worldwide. I want my students to be able to experience music from other cultures in a real way. I think that this will not only help them gain a broader musical background, but performing will give them confidence and acceptance in a new way.
