I love Science and enjoy teaching it.Watching students be excited about learning is all a teacher could as for. From Science students can master many achedimic skills while having fun. They can work on Math, Literacy, and Writing all while completing a hands-on experiment. Science Rocks!
I am a first grade teacher at a title 1 school in a military town in NC.
In my classroom I have many students of different ability levels. I have some students who are performing on grade level and some who are performing below. In my classroom I feel that there is not a lot of time or resources to use for Science. However, when I do teach Science my students faces are lit up and they are mastering many concepts. The students love hands-on activities I only wish I had more to offer. I also wish it was possible to have free choice Science centers in my classroom for students to use at any time of the day when they were finished with their assignments. This would allow for independent exploration along with mastering new concepts. I want school to be fun and engaging for my first grade students and I feel Science centers could help with this. May students in my classroom struggle with different academic skills, but I feel science centers could be a great review of many skills.
My Project
Who doesn't want to see a first grade student love school and succeed? If you were to help with this project, you would help 20 students feel this way. If I were able to have more Science resources and set up science centers I could help my students master many concepts. I could independently teach them about how important the earth is and all of the wonderful things it has to offer. We could also review many Math concepts and also Literacy. The only catch would be is students would be having fun while learning and reviewing these skills and they wouldn't just be doing an old worksheet from a book. I feel that Science is a subject that we lack understanding in. The reason for this is teachers don't take the time to teach these important concepts. I love Science and enjoy discovering new things and I feel that all of the students in my classroom should have the opportunity to be scientists as well.
