My Students

Healthy food and fitness are missing from the lives of my students. In our classroom, our nutrition resources are out of date. Students need current resources about the new and improved food pyramid.

Our classroom is a 4th grade classroom in Washington state.

We are a minority majority school district. We are a high needs community with 71% of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. My students are eager students, but unaware of the realities that face them regarding healthy living. They crave information and the tools to help them grow.

My Project

A large portion of our year is devoted to health and nutrition. Unfortunately, the resources I have are out of date. I do not have current food pyramids or books that focus on fitness and nutrition. By supplying copies of texts that focus on health and the new and improved food pyramid, the class will be exposed to correct and helpful information. The posters and games will help them to apply the information such as how to read labels, what is in your drinks, etc. The information will be invaluable to their learning and could have lasting effects throughout their lives.

The topic of health and nutrition is rarely a focus in the classroom.

I want to help my students learn how to live a lifestyle that will be healthy and long lasting. I want to provide them the skills and knowledge that I did not grow up with. Creating an active and healthy lifestyle while young will foster the skills to continue later in life. Your donations will aid me in providing my students current resources and materials that could have a huge and lasting impression.
