My Students

Imagine seeing a slimy frog slurping its dinner in the pond or chicks finally breaking free from their tiny shells as they emerge into the world. Now imagine watching these wonders of nature happening right in front of you and being able to capture that moment forever in a video!

I am the K-5 science teacher in a newly created elementary lab.

I teach all 1,200 students on our campus on a rotating basis every 9 days. Our campus is adjacent to a major military installation, with a high percentage of students who are military dependents. Many of my students' parents are deployed overseas. We also have an unusually high number of homeless students and students whose home language is not English.

My Project

I am constantly searching for unique ways to grab my students' attention while laying foundation skills and a passion for science. We have turned my simple classroom into an unusual world, but with 1200 students on our campus going through my classroom each two weeks, many miss that priceless moment when chicks are hatching or butterflies are emerging and occurring in real time. These Flip cameras will not only allow us the opportunity to record what's going on inside our room, but students will be able to take them "in the field" to record other quirks in nature without having to rely on the Discovery Channel or YouTube.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, a high percentage of my military students are in single family homes with limited opportunities to explore the natural world.

This project will not only give them that experience but will allow it to be recorded. With a simple click of a mouse, it can be instantly shared with loved ones in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Korea. Thank you for helping!
