My Students

"I hate math!" That's what I used to say. In my classroom, I try to teach math in a fun and creative way so no child has to hate math anymore.

My thirty first-grade mathematicians attend a public high-poverty school in Wisconsin.

Five students have special needs. They enjoy math because I try to teach using all the modalities of learning; drawing, movement, hands-on manipulatives, and music. During math class, you will see us act out solutions to word problems, draw pictures to find answers, hop on a number line, or even sing the days of the week.

My Project

These new magnetic math games and materials will help me teach my students in new and creative ways. The giant number line and math manipulatives will be very useful at the beginning of every class when we do whole class demonstrations. The number line may be used throughout the year because it can be made to increase in difficulty. The magnetic operations and numbers kits will be used during small group teaching to reinforce addition and subtraction facts, as well as, teach comparisons of more and less. The number patterns activities will help the advanced students because these problems are higher-level thinking puzzles.

Your generous donation of these materials will make even the most struggling math students have a great time while learning.

Using the counters and flash cards we currently have, do not compare to the fun new activities that you can bring to our math center and during math instruction.
