My Students

Marcel Proust said, "There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we believe we left without having lived them, those we spent with a favorite book." Many of the inner-city children that I teach have no cozy place to read at home or access to books.

My students are in a 84% poverty level.

Many of them are just learning to speak English. Often English is not spoken in their homes at all and they have have no books at home or the ability to go to the library. The students are four and five years old and just developing their outlook on the world.

My Project

I want to develop a corner in my classroom where these children can dream beyond their circumstances. A magical place with no limitations and where they can learn and become inspired for the future. I have developed a good classroom library that my children can enjoy. Now, I want to develop the place to read them.

My children would be so excited to have this cozy corner to curl up with a good book and I would be so excited to see this world open up to my students.
