Increasing Reading with Award Winning Books

My students need the 17 Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Award Nominee books.

My Students

Do you know how hard it is to read the first in the series and not have access to the rest of the series? What if the library only has the second in the series, but not the first? Who would want to check that book out? My students want to read. They love it, but they also want to read popular series.

My Junior and Senior High School students love the Colorado Blue Spruce Awards.

They thoroughly loved the 2011 award winner "The Hunger Games." We are a small rural public school. The closest public library is a half hour drive and the closest book store in our state is a two hour drive! Our students are active, over 80% of our school participates in a school sport with practice after school. So during their sport season, they have even less time to visit the public library, let alone make it to the bookstore. Having an updated school library with current popular titles is important to them.

My Project

With your help our students will receive current popular books for their library. The Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Awards are recognized as the most popular books among middle and high school students in the State of Colorado. Colorado teens nominate their favorite titles and select the winner. Adults don’t get to vote, only teens. The books that were chosen for this project are the books that are not currently in our library and are nominated for Blue Spruce. Also requested are the books that are part of the series of the nominations. My students are like most readers, they like to read a series from the start, or read the entire series if they like it. Having the entire series available is what will help them continue their reading.

Only with your support will our students be able to increase their reading of high interest books.

Our library is in need of not only the award nominees but the entire series, from those nominees. Not having that entire series increases frustration and decreases reading. Increasing reading is what we all want to achieve! Thank you for helping us increase our reading!
