My Students

Have you ever imagined what it would be like if you couldn't read the same books as your friends? What would it be like if reading was so hard for you that you missed out on some great adventures?

I teach junior high and high school students with learning disabilities in reading.

Many of my students have convinced themselves that reading for pleasure is not worth the effort. I want to expose them to different ways that they can enjoy books and overcome their reading difficulties.

My Project

I am requesting nine audio books by a variety of authors. These books include mystery, action, and adventure that will be engaging and interesting to my students. These books are also available in our school library as classroom sets. Regular education teachers use these books as part of their literature units. My students will be more prepared to participate in class discussions and activities after listening to the book. The books I am requesting are as follows: Flush by Carl Hiaasen; The Time Machine by H.G. Wells; And Then There were None by Agatha Christie; The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau; Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor; and The River, Brian's Return, Brian's Winter and Lawn Boy all by Gary Paulsen.

Through your generous donations, you will be providing an opportunity for students with reading difficulties to finally experience the joy and wonder of reading.

You will be opening the door to a whole new world, the world of books!
