My students need math and reading games to help them make lasting connections with our lessons.

My Students

"School is boring!" "I never have any fun." "I don't need to learn this stuff!" These are just a few comments I hear as students come into school. Things change when you put a game in front of them! I begin hearing comments such as "I love this game!" "This is so much fun!"

I teach in a public school in Delaware.

My special education class has a range of learning disabilities that challenge each of the students. They are so eager to learn! Math and reading are big challenges for them. I have a small self-contained special education classroom. Each student is ready to learn and ready to give their all! They each deserve a chance to excel and I am trying to find every way possible to help them do that.

My Project

I am always looking for ways to inspire my students to learn. For my special education students I have found that one way they retain information is when they play games. They remember everything about games! I have created little games in math for them and those are their favorite activities to play over and over again. The sight word games also help the students learn words instead of constantly stopping to sound them out. This helps their fluency. The math games will help the students retain their number recognitions as well as the concepts we cover in class.

These games will not only benefit this year's class, but many future students as well.

I may occasionally hear the above comments, but the one I love more than anything is: "What do you mean we're learning Mrs. C?"
