My Students

Dead men tell no tales!" Well, actually they do! Forensic Anthropology is best studied hands on and down in the dirt. We need bones to bury, dig up, and analyze making it a truly "hands on" experience.

My Forensic Science students are Seniors in High School that elect to further their science studies beyond the required curriculum.

These students choose to take the class because they are interested in the area of Forensic Science. Many of these students take the class hoping to go into the field in the future. This class is a great way to keep our students interested in science and provide and introduction to an amazing field of study.

My Project

The Forensic Anthropology Unit is greatly lacking in real life lab activities. Much of the material we cover is supplemented by pencil and paper activities. If students are to learn how to measure a long bone to determine the height of a person, or differentiate between male and female skeletons, or how to properly excavate bones they must have real size skeletal structures to handle, observe and analyze. Three-dimensional structures that the students can pick up and turn around in their hands make for a truly enriching experience. The bone kits will be used for students to study cranial structures and measure long bones. The full skeletons will be used to create an area outside for teams of students to excavate, using their knowledge from the unit to complete the final lab activity.

True science education is not based entirely on paper and pencil problems.

Science education should provide enriching experiences that encourage and inspire students to pursue science in the future. This donation will help give students those experiences.
