This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is so old. "How old is it?" It is so old that I just found a fossil in the closet. When I walk into my classroom, I want to say, "Wow" instead of okay. I want my students to learn, but I want to stop using so much paper. We recycle and conserve, but I really want to go interactive.
I teach fourth grade to 17 students who go to school in an urban school system.
Our school is small, and we don't have much community support. The school receives funding from the Title 1 and Free Lunch programs, but that is not enough. I received a whiteboard last year to get rid of the old chalkboard. But I want to do more to make my classroom Eco-friendly. I would like to use less paper and more technology with my students.
My Project
It is hard trying to teach students in the 21st century when you don't have the necessary technology. We live in an age where technology is used all around our students, but they don't have the experience or knowledge to use it. I would like to update my classroom by adding a Mimio system to my whiteboard. This would make my whiteboard interactive and give my students the opportunity to stopping using so much paper. With the Mimio, Elmo document camera, and the projector, we would be able to stop making so many copies and wasting so much paper every year. I would like to show my students a different way to learn that doesn't involve destroying so many trees. With the projector, I could create activities that the students could complete by coming up to the interactive whiteboard. I would be able to write notes and model math problems that can be saved with the Mimio and transferred into a word document and sent to their computers.
The new Mimio, document camera, and projector would create a totally different type of classroom that would redefine my instruction and how students learn.
Your support of this project will turn my classroom into a first-class, high-tech, waste-free, paperless environment.
