My Students

"Learn to read and read to learn." I want to entice all of my students into becoming life long readers and life long learners. The Rebecca Caudill and Nutmeg book lists are just what they need to start them on their journey!

My students come from a diverse background.

Our school has 52.8 % of its students on free and reduced lunch. Seventy one percent of our seventh grade students met or exceeded on the ISAT reading test last year and only 68% of the eighth graders met or exceeded. Many students want something to do after school that will not include paying an activity fee, purchasing some sort of sports equipment, or giving money for other expenses.

My Project

Did you ever want to sit with a favorite teacher and read? What about spending time with friends and sharing what you loved most about a book that you just couldn't put down? How about meeting new people and finding something you have in common with them? I am the teacher that wants to inspire my kids to read for fun- yes, FUN! I want to introduce kids to other students they may have never met before. By hosting the Rebecca Caudill/ Nutmeg after school reading club, I will be able to do all of the above. Reading is something I love to do and want to share that love with more students than I have in my classroom. This book club will be open to the over 500 students in our building, not just the ones I have in class.

By introducing students to the books on the lists, I will be able to plant a seed that these students can carry with them and foster for the rest of their lives.

There are book clubs they can join at any point in their lives that will help them to grow their love of reading. You can be the difference for these students by helping to purchase the books for our club!
