This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A musician is only as good as the instrument on which he or she performs.

My students come from a community that has increasingly become more diverse over the past decade.

With a high percentage of immigrant families, music has become an effective means of crossing bridges and establishing bonds within the school. Music has the capacity to bring people together regardless of socio-economic considerations as it is a universal language. Teaching percussion is rewarding as the heart of a musician beats in all of us.

My Project

The concert bells presently in use by the concert band and the percussion ensemble at my high school are approximately 20 years old and have fallen into disrepair and out of tune. By securing a new set these young percussionists will be able to perform with the sound of a professional.

Donations to this project are vital as the economic downturn has resulted in a freeze on all discretionary spending including any instrument expenditures.

However, for the musician having a suitable instrument on which to play is the equivalent of possessing a calculator in math class.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
