My students need 12 resource books to help them learn and use the design software (Adobe Creative Suite) we have on our computers.

My Students

My students see themselves as 21st Century learners. In our school they have access to software that they would otherwise never be able to afford and are eager to use it. Unfortunately we don’t have up-to-date, easy-to-use manuals for the Adobe Creative Suite programs installed on our computers.

Students and teachers have a lot invested in our school which is an exciting experiment in fusing rigorous academics with solid 21st century technological skills and career choices.

Our student body is culturally diverse and comes from all over the city; everyone is eager to learn new skills and technologies. Our library is a large, sunny space that provides many different resources for our entire school community. We have almost 20 computers in the library space, labs, and offices, one of which will soon become a video editing facility. All of the computers have advanced graphics software including AutoCad, REvit Architecture and the entire Adobe Creative Suite 3. As a result, many extra projects are conducted here, particularly those related to design and video. Whether students are learning software in a classroom (Autocad), or using software for extracurricular projects (web design, photoshop, flash), they want to be able to access books that can help them learn on their own

My Project

I am requesting books that students can use to learn the architecture and graphics software on our computers. In the case of AutoCad and Revit Architecture, students are learning the software in their classes but they want to be able to access books outside of class and they need resources to help teach themselves the Adobe design suite and video editing (Adobe premiere). Independent student-centered projects have included a trailer for the spring play, class projects, posters for school events, fundraising flyers, building models, newsletters, team logos and more. Even our school logo was designed by one of our students. Unfortunately, maintaining a collection of up-to-date technology books with our limited library budget is very hard. I want to get, along with a few other titles, the Classroom-in-a-book series, an excellent set from Adobe that will allow students to teach themselves step by step. We will be using Adobe CS3 for a few years so this will make a useful investment

As the definition of information literacy has evolved from using simple reference resources to knowing how to use multiple literacies that are digital, visual, textual and technological, mastery of these advanced programs can only serve to help students become 21st century learners.

Having a variety of multimedia resources in the library supports the students to become independent learners able to use information critically and effectively.
