My Students

The students of my high school have gone 4 years without a proper track program. They are without a track to run on, any field event areas, and until this year they have not had a coach with any track experience. Hopefully we can begin to change all this.

Four years ago, the schools of the county consolidated creating new opportunities and problems for the students and school employees.

The school was under the control of the state which allowed for excellent funding for the school building but, the school has limited athletic facilities. We are without a track in the county, and until recently the school had no athletic fields of its own. The students who are on the track team now are truly dedicated, that's clear because they are often willing to travel more than an hour for PRACTICE! I hope that we can start to build a better athletic program at the school beginning with this project.

My Project

I am hoping to build a shot put pit at the school. I need shot put rings and toe boards. I have throwers on my team that show potential to receive scholarships at the college level. This project would allow them to practice the skills they learn at their own school. This will begin to teach the students valuable skills about teamwork and having pride in their school.

My students are committed to learning the proper way to throw shot put and discus; and I want to show that there are people as committed to them.

Many of these students have poor home lives, and they have spent their lives believing that no one cares about them. I hope that this project can prove them wrong.
