My students need a working LCD television with built-in DVD player to participate in the Second Step character building program and to be able to watch occasional educational DVDs.

My Students

I think we all take having a TV for granted. At my school we have a character building program called Second Step, where the students need a TV to help them participate in it. However, we do not have a working TV/DVD player at my school, so the students cannot get the full benefit of the program.

My students are second graders who need your help in knowing how to act in their everyday lives.

Our school is in a very poor, crime ridden neighborhood. They do not always get all of the support that they should at home, so it is imperative that I am able to teach them how to act toward others. I can do that more successfully by having the equipment that I need in order to show them how other children act in specific situations.

My Project

If my students are able to have access to a TV with a DVD player, they can participate in the character building program entitled, Second Step. In this program, students are introduced to a particular situation where a child has to make certain decisions on how they should act. For example, the DVD might show a child who gets angry at another child. The teacher and students discuss how the child could deal with the situation. Then, the DVD shows how the child did deal with the problem. Seeing other children making good choices will help my students to make good choices in their own lives.

I am a teacher.

I teach reading, math, writing, science, and social studies. More importantly though I think is that I teach my students how to be good citizens. I can continue to do this with your help. Together, we can shape the future of our little corner of the world.
