This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach general music to over 550 students in an urban PreK-8 school. I see each general music class once a week. That's a lot of kids making music!! We also have a small band program at my school that is underfunded.

Many of our students very excited when given the opportunity to play instruments.

Whether they are working together in a general music class or in band, my students love to make music and especially on instruments! Unfortunately we are unable to purchase quality instruments. Teaching in one of the poorest cities in the nations provides many challenging obstacles, especially when it comes to supplies and even more for the arts. Our students deserve a quality music education with quality instruments. We need your help.

My Project

We are in need of a consort of recorders. This consort would allow a variety of students to make music on recorders in various sizes (sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and bass). Along with the need for recorders comes the need for music. We will use these resources to learn how to play an instrument, read music, and work as a team (in an ensemble); performing for peers, teachers, administrators, parents and members of our community.

Children love to make music.

Recorders are a great way to teach children how to make music. Your gift will allow hundreds of students to make music, read music, and share their talents with many in performances.
