This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of twenty students who are eager and excited about learning and playing golf; however, there aren't enough materials for each of them to participate.

My students attend a small, public, low-income population-serving high school in New York City.

They are positive and motivated to learn the basic skills of a game that is very new to them: golf. At this point, the golf club is made up primarily of girls, and while most of them have never played golf, they are extremely excited and enthusiastic about the possibility of learning and playing the sport. The problem we now face is a lack of materials for each girl to participate fully. We have had some golf clubs donated, but we need more if we want to actually play. The students involved with the golf club want to get onto a real course and play, but we can't do that without more clubs!

My Project

If I can get two 11 piece club sets, tees, a putting mat, and practice balls, I can start to work on developing the foundations for a sport that can be played for a lifetime. There are a large number of young ladies who want to play, and it is necessary for them to be equipped with the proper clubs that will help them best learn the golf swing. With these materials, my students will learn the foundations of the golf swing, something that can test their patience, pride, and humility. If they can develop the focus and determination necessary for a golf swing, they will be able to handle most situations that they encounter on and off the golf course. However, they cannot practice without the proper equipment. It is necessary that these young, developing golfers have the right clubs to play with. Also, every student must also have a chance to participate. This can only happen if we have enough materials for each student.

By donating to this project, you provide the opportunity for each student to participate in the golf club.

I believe that golf can teach my students to become more patient and understanding. It can teach them to become more focused and self-motivated. But it can only teach them if they each have the opportunity to participate. With your donation to our project, each of my students can have the opportunity to build these important skills on and off the golf course.
