My Students

Have you ever had a stalker? I can introduce you to 21 students that feel they are being stalked everyday by their teacher! I am constantly checking on my adopted children and I am aware of their performance in all of their classes.

This particular donation is for my AVID class.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Our district adopted this class to reach some of the students that may normally slip through the cracks and/or may be the first to attend college. My job is to act as an advocate to ensure they are fully prepared to apply for college and be successful after they enter. This is my second year with the students and I will follow them until they graduate in 2 short years from now.

My Project

Our class has been reading books every semester. When it comes time to start a new book it is very difficult to gather 21 copies from the other libraries. In the making I have plans for reading the book BAD BOY, by Walter Dean Myers. Walter Dean Myers is such an inspiration to youth and writes books that young adults really enjoy. In this book he tells his childhood story of growing up in Harlem, NY and I am confident my students will be able to relate to this story. I would love a class set of this story along with his other award winning novel MONSTER.

These books will not only allow my students to read, write and think; they will aide in a discussion of real life struggles, racism and the power to overcome.

Our class would be so grateful for these books to continue our preparation for college. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
