My students need 16 supplies to complete a personal landscape silk resist project, including silk hoops, scarves, paints and dyes and glue.

My Students

In these tough economic times we have chosen to celebrate what we have. Our class is focusing on community pride.

Our art classroom is the home to a wide range of students.

Junior high classes have a mixture of 7th and 8th graders. The high school classes mix 9th through 12th. We are a rural community that is being hit hard during these economic times. Many of my students are dealing with unemployment and uncertainty within their households. These kids know what it is like to go without, and they are appreciative for any opportunities they are given. In our art class, we have decided that pride is something that we need to focus on. With this project we will be creating landscapes of the surrounding area that we love. These will be presented in a community show along with biographies of people in the community we admire. During the show we will be providing mini workshops on landscape painting to the interested community members.

My Project

The Personal Landscape project will help foster pride in our community. It encourages students to focus in on the beauty that surrounds them. They will learn about the concepts of color, composition, and emphasis. They will learn a textile art, and they will create a beautiful tribute showing pride in their community.

Your contribution will help these children focus on the aspect of their lives that are positive.

They will be able to share this with other members of the community. This kind of attitude is what we all need to get through the tough times.
