Core Knowledge and Teaching Ancient Egypt

My students need modeling clay, 22 books about Egypt, and 22 boxes of crayons.

My Students

Do you remember how much fun it was to draw, color, mold cut and create as a young child? My students love these activities, and at this time in the school year our extra resources are depleted.

My students are active and curious.

Most of the students are making some gains with their reading and writing skills. They enjoy listening to the read aloud about ancient cultures such as the Maya, Inca and the people of Mesopotamia. They like hands on activities when they accompany the lessons.

My Project

I am requesting clay, workbooks about Ancient Egypt, art supplies to create projects about the pyramids and other structures of that period. These books are colorful and have detailed pictures of the buildings of that time period. Children like to create and draw. Most first graders like to make things and use materials other than crayons.

My project is important because it will help to enhance the culmination of our study of this domain of the Core Knowledge Reading program.

This will help provide an opportunity for the students to create and use hands on activities.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
