My Students

Do you remember learning about DNA in school. It was this mysterious molecule that you needed to know about but had trouble envisioning. At some point your teacher may have gotten out a model set. By working with the parts, DNA started to become a real molecule with meaning.

I work at a small public school in Kentucky with a diverse group of eager learners.

My students come from many different cultures and socioeconomic statuses. The students here are ready to learn, and they are only limited by the resources that I have in my room.

My Project

The resources that I have requested include a model set for making a model of DNA and an experiment kit so that students can visualize and cut real pieces of DNA. The DNA model will allow students to examine the structure of DNA and how it separates for gene copying. The experiment kit will allow my students to use gel electrophoresis to cut and separate unique pieces of DNA for observation.

DNA is an increasingly important part of our world.

In medicine and criminal justice, DNA is playing an increasing role in how we live. It is essential that our students understand what DNA is and how it impacts their lives.
