Help CreateNew Experiences & LearningThrough Nonfiction Text

My students need 30 subscriptions to Weekly Reader, a fun and creative way to explore nonfiction text in the classroom.

This project expired on August 15, 2010.

My Students

Do you remember the first magazine you read when you were a child? Do remember flipping through the pages and finding lively and colorful pictures. Without knowing, you were reading and learning through nonfiction text. Help my students experience this too!

My classroom consists of 25 Kindergarten students.

Our school is a Title 1 school in an urban area where funds are very tight and over 90% of our families are on free or reduced lunch programs. My students are full of energy and are excited about learning. They enjoy exploring new concepts and embrace all aspects of school. :)

My Project

My students have very little exposure to nature and the real world. By having Weekly Readers, my students will be able to learn about the world around them all while developing literacy, math, and social skills. These Weekly Readers will help us explore many nonfiction topics and they will be used to build skills across our entire curriculum.

I believe that children need various tools to enhance their learning.

I feel that by sharing these readers with my students, they will be able to explore the world in a colorful and lively way. A way in which they may never have the real opportunity to do.
