We Are Vane About The Weather!

My students need anemometers and a rain gauge to build a weather station at camp.

My Students

"Red at night, sailor's delight. Red in the morning, sailors take warning." Most of us have heard this 'weatherism' before. I would like my students to use weather equipment at camp to record the weather, and to make weather predictions.

My students are sixth graders at a 'high needs' school.

We are trying to organize a camping adventure for May 11, 12, and 13th of this year (2010). These sixth graders are a great group of students with a strong desire to learn more about the world around them. They respond positively to hands-on activities.

My Project

My students will use the weather instruments obtained through Donorschoose to observe, record, and predict the weather. This activity will help to strengthen the critical thinking skills of my students. Prediction is a very important skill in science. By utilizing the data gathered at our weather station, students will learn how to recognize weather patterns and use these patterns to make predictions.

This camping field trip will be a wonderful experience for my students.

Many of my students have never traveled out of the city. This camping trip, loaded with science activities, is just the type of experience which can foster a deep interest in science!
