Teach to Learn Geometry Vocabulary

My students need 38 compasses and three digital cameras to shoot movies that teach how to make congruent angles and segments, as well as angle and perpendicular bisectors.

My Students

If you really remember only 10% of what you hear, 50% of what you do, and 90% of what you teach, then let's get these kids teaching! My math kids have oodles and oodles of geometry vocabulary words to learn and what better way than to learn them than to make a movie demonstrating them!

My kids are seventh graders learning Pre-Algebra in a California public school.

They are inquisitive, creative, and love working together. Many will move on to Algebra next year and Geometry after that. My task is to help them cement these geometry concepts so that they can hang on to them until they reach Geometry.

My Project

We need 38 compasses to use with the rulers that I provide, so I can teach my students how to create an exact copy of an angle and a line segment. They will also learn to bisect an angle exactly and to create a perpendicular bisector to a line segment perfectly. Then with the digital cameras, they will work in groups to create three minute movies demonstrating what they learned using appropriate geometry vocabulary. As a wrap up activity, they will proudly share their movies with the entire class.
