Environment - Students to the Rescue!

My students need various environmental science supplies including recyclable plastics, a lab manual, compost set, a sieve and more for their new AP Environmental Science Class.

My Students

The students at my school have not had an opportunity to take and Environmental Science Class. For the 2010-2011 school year we are offering AP Environmental Science. This is such an important and relevant class because it deals with so many aspects of our environment.

My students come from a very poor Northern California rural county.

The school is a charter school, emphasizing the arts and college preparation. This will be the first time that the school has been able to offer any AP classes, and Environmental Science was chosen as one of the two classes. Students choose to come to this school, it is a school of choice. Students must keep up the GPA and top notch behavior is expected from every student. We have a waiting list, due to our high academics scores, therefore students do want to attend school and learn.

My Project

It is very expensive to start a new science class. Textbooks run around $100/student. Then there is the lab equipment and supplies, which add up to a large sum of money. Science without labs is not an effective way to teach, or for students to learn. We need various environmental science supplies including recyclable plastics, a lab manual, compost set, a sieve and more for their new AP Environmental Science Class. The resources that I have requested are 100% for the science labs that are required for AP Environmental Science. These supplies will allow students to test water quality, soil samples, air quality, to name a few. Just look at the list of supplies and you will get a good idea of what the students will be doing - with your help.

This is such an essential project.

With the state of our global environment, one of the best ways to insure the future of our planet is to educate this generation of students. They are the future users, consumers and preservers of planet Earth. Help be a part of their education as they learn different ways they can become good stewards of our planet!
