My Students

America is a place where everyone is not born equal. Help my students read a book that will prepare them for the real world.

I currently teach English at a challenging college prep school where almost all of the students go on to a four-year institution.

The students are great because they want to learn, want to know about history and want to discover why things are the way they are. They see and understand that life is not fair and that everyone is not equal.

My Project

"Race Matters" by Cornell West is a book that I had the opportunity to read in college that totally changed the way I think about life. It is always great when you come across a book like this. I need 39 copies of "Race Matters" so I can use it in my African American Literature class.

I think the students would love it, and it would provide hours of interesting discussion.

It’s a book that everyone should read at least once in his or her lifetime. The book will prepare them for college by giving them a different perspective of America and it will prepare them for the real world. Moreover, it will give them more insight on a topic that most people are uncomfortable talking about.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
