My Students

My students all live in Baltimore City and rarely leave the city limits. Ocean City is only a few hours away, but it is totally unreachable to most of my students. Getting students out of the city is a great way to motivate them as well as expose them to a new cultural and ecological environment.

This trip will be an exciting incentive for students who are losing steam this time of the year.

Not only do students have to pass all of their classes, but they must pass four assessments required for graduation. Towards this time of year, other teachers and I have a hard time keeping students interested and excited about coming to school. We can use this trip to improve attendance and reward hard work. Many of our students have test anxiety and giving them a reward for their efforts will help them get through the tests and keep them on track to graduate high school on time. Being successful on high school exams will give students the confidence they will need to do well on similar exams in college. My goal is to create a positive exam taking experience now to help reduce test anxiety and improve student’s scores and confidence throughout their academic careers. As a teacher in a school with a high drop out rate it is very important to me to keep my students motivated to have good attendance and to complete all of their school work. A trip to Ocean City will be a great motivational tool to reward students with a fun and interesting trip.

My Project

My students will spend the day in Ocean City MD where they can experience the beauty of the beaches and have a great time exploring the excitement of the boardwalk. This will prove to be a very memorable trip because for most of my students this will be their first trip to the beach. They will experience what waves sound like, what sandy shoes feel like and how see just how big the ocean really is! Many of my students apply to college along the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but have never visited the area. This trip will also serve to broaden student’s horizons about the different areas in their home state and help in deciding which colleges they are interested in applying to.

I will be able to use this trip to keep students motivated for the rest of the school year.

Many students have been working hard all year, and this will help keep them going strong. Some students have gotten off track and this trip can help motivate them to get re-focused. Nobody wants to be left behind while all of their friends get to go to the beach!
