Fine Motor Activites For Students With Autism

My students need puzzles, chenille stems, Etch a Sketch, Magnetic Mosaic Designs, a water board, and Doodle Sketch to improve their fine motor skills.

My Students

I teach student with autism spectrum disorders and even though they have fine motor deficits, like most kids, my students hate writing exercises.

My 10 students are in a self contained classroom for students with ASD.

Although they love to learn, my students do not want to do another handwriting workbook or practice their pincer grasp picking up another eraser with the Occupational Therapist. They want to improve these skills in ways that are as unique as they are.

My Project

All of my students love puzzles. Although the difficulty level of the puzzle varies with each child. Using puzzles will improve a student's pincer grasp as well as heighten their visual reasoning skills. Using items such as the water board, Etch a Sketch, and Doodle Sketch will help students practice letter formations in a more fun and inviting way. In my classroom, my students love to work for chenille stems. They like to mold them into shapes of people and animals. This practice is also helping them to improve their fine motor skills.

Your donations will help my current students and future students to improve their writing and other fine motor skills which are needed in everyday life.

These items will help to eliminate the frustration they have with fine motor practices and in turn make their school experience more enjoyable and more conducive for them to learn.
